Retired Deputy Chief Yonkers Police Dept. John P. Duffy, a
lifelong Yonkers resident, died on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at
St. John's Riverside Hospital. He was 72 years old. He was born
on May 28, 1933 to Patrick and Ellie Boylan Duffy in Yonkers
where he was raised and educated, graduating from Gorton High
School. Mr. Duffy was a Police Officer for the Yonkers Police
Department for over 40 years until his retirement in June, 1998.
He retired as Deputy Chief of The Department, a position he held
for two years. Mr. Duffy was a member of the Police Emerald
Society of Westchester in which he was a drummer in the Pipe
Band. He was a graduate of the FBI Academy in 1980. He was also
a longtime communicant of Sacred Heart Church. An avid
N.Y.Giants football fan, he attended every Giants home game at
The Meadowlands. He also enjoyed going to N.Y. Ranger hockey
games with his grandsons. On September 12, 1952, he married
Sharon O'Brien in St. Peter's Church. Mrs. Duffy died on March
12, 1999. Survivors include two sons, Kevin Duffy and his wife
Lori of Yonkers, and Patrick Duffy and his wife Maureen of
Baldwin Place, NY, and three daughters, Kathleen Duffy of
Yonkers, Erin P. McCormack and her husband Brian of Mahopac, and
Bridget Marques and her husband Tony of Mahopac. He is also
survived by seven grandchildren, Patrick, Sean, Kellie, Kaitlin,
Courtney, Tyler, and Hunter Rose, and his daughter-in-law,
Patricia Duffy.
